This is decent self defense advice: "Don't get into unnecessary fights. Don't start shit." I suspect the original idea was simply trying to reduce the amount of kinetic conflict person-to-person. Someone has to do it though, conflict doesn't always let you walk away.
On the internet though, the rule has always been "don't start something if you aren't able to withstand what comes." Words can't hurt you, but you can't be a fool in the maneuverings. You can make enemies, who will lock you out of regions. Peace with everyone isn't possible.
There’s a lot of room between starting trouble and shrinking from conflict. That’s what they failed to account for.
Yeah, in a way, you’ve got to bemuch more amenable online than in real life—especially if success in your career somewhat depends on your online relationships.
